We have officially started our Adoption Journey in Nova Scotia! C and I went to the Western region meeting last Tuesday evening and got all of the initial paperwork. The next evening, we sat down and discussed what we would be willing to "take on" (age range, number of children, "special needs" (emotional, physical, mental disabilities, dealing with loss, etc) among other things). We've decided to stick with the recommendation of ages 0-5 years old, and sibling groups up to 2 children. I won't divulge in the special needs we noted as being able to handle, because it is really a personal choice as to what he and I feel we would be capable of dealing with ourselves and also how that child would be considered in our families. I am hoping to send our adoption forms off with our criminal record checks by the end of the week, and have the ball rolling from there.
We are both getting really excited, and we are looking into buying a house while we wait. We were told there is no official waiting period, because children are matched based on their needs and personalities, as well as the parents' lifestyles and home situation, etc. It is a very complicated process, and we could wait 6 months or not have a match for 8 years!!
We are both very excited and can't wait to welcome a child or two into our family! Thanks for reading!
