I have waded through adoption paper work. You have to go through 10-30 hours of TRAINING here in Nova Scotia in order to be considered adoption-worthy. You need to go through a home evaluation, a criminal record check, and be able to prove you have enough of a stable income to support however many children come into your door through the adoption process. Siblings are required to be kept together. And let’s not forget if you are adopting from a foreign country, not only do you have to do all of the above, but you also pay to fly to the country to meet your child, you pay $20,000+ in adoption fees, and you have to promise to bring that child back every year to experience their home culture. (This is the case in China, I am not positive about other countries’ laws on international adoption.) Can you imagine how different the world would be if everyone were required to go through training and a home evaluation before getting pregnant? A background and criminal record check? The world would be a far different place, that’s for sure.
Let me restate. I am NOT against women getting an abortion. If you were raped as a young teen, get an abortion if you can’t keep it and get through school! If you are going to die because the child is twisted in some way inside of you and neither of you will survive, get an abortion! But for the love of God, if you tell me that you just “did not want it,” or that “you aren't ready,” you will be getting an ear full from me. Because in my mind that is just not right. If you do not want it, there are MANY people out there looking for a child. Please consider those of us that cannot have children on our own before you end that child’s life while he is still growing inside you. Those that have made the effort and gone through rigorous background sPlease!
